Field Log// The Shiprock formation is part of Navajo Nation, and therefore not a national park or monument. It is a remarkable treasure though, so we are sneaking this capture by @adam.ly into our #NPSCentennial tribute. The Navajo name for this anomaly of the flatlands is Tsé Bitʼaʼí, which means “winged rock.” We sought it out far past midnight on the first leg of our Desert Southwest #bettyventure, and it looked like a regal vessel, ready to hoist its sails and catch the current of the Milky Way.
